“Fog is a Linux-based, free and open source computer imaging solution for Windows XP and Vista that ties together a few open-source tools with a php-based web interface. Fog doesn’t use any boot disks, or CDs; everything is done via TFTP and PXE. “

Now that you have Ubuntu installed your system is now ready to install the FOG Suite.

Login and lets get started.

1. Download the newest version of Fog from http://sourceforge.net/projects/freeghost/ you can do this by going to Applications à Internet à Firefox and entering the url

2. Save the file to the /opt directory (should be named fog_*.**.fc.tar.gz)

3. Open terminal by going to Applications à Accessories à Terminal

4. Now we are going to un-tar (unzip) the installation files,

Here are the commands:

cd /opt

tar –xvzf fog*

cd fog*

cd bin

v. ./installfog.sh (This will launch the setup Script)

5. Follow the prompts and answer the questions. Answers may vary depending on your network.

6. After the installation is complete go back into Firefox and enter the url : http://[serveripaddress]/fog/management once here you will be asked to install the database schema. Click Install/Upgrade Now

7. After this is complete go back to http://[serveripaddress]/fog/management . Now that the schema is installed you should be asked for a username and password. The username is fog and the password is password

8. The installation is now complete.

Installation of Ubuntu

1. Download the most up to date distro of Ubuntu from : http://ubuntu.com

2. Burn ISO image to a optical media such as a DVD or CD

3. Insert disk into the server and set your boot options within the bios to boot to optical drive.

4. When the installer starts you will be presented with a prompt to choose your language, select your language.

5. Next you will see a menu with different options that you can choose to do with the disk. We want to select “Install Ubuntu”

6. Next choose your language again.

7. Now select your Time Zone and adjust the time.

8. Next select your keyboard layout.

9. Next is when you can select different partition options. In this example we are going to use the whole disk.

10. Now we must name the machine as well as setup passwords for the unit.

Tip: If on a domain make sure you stay within naming policies to save yourself some hassle later.

11. Now we are ready to install, verify your settings and click next to start the installation.

12. Ubuntu will now be installed on your system.

13. Click Login to begin.
