Terminal Server CAL Issue

Just had this issue with a Server 2008 Terminal Server box. The error was:

“The remote session was disconnected because there are no Terminal Server client access licenses available for this computer. Please contact the server administrator.”

Microsofts answer was get more cals but I tested the unit when no one was here and verified it was not a lack of cals it was an issue with the client.

Here is how I fixed it:

Navigate to the registry key that has information about the terminal server licensing. HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSLicensing

Make a backup of this key (right click and export, save to desktop)

After you backup the key, delete the key, right click and delete (don’t worry, you have a backup)

Now attempt to reconnect to the terminal server.
