Password Protect an Excel File
Today I had a user want to send a spreadsheet with private information on it, and wanted a way to password protect the file. This is the quick and easy way to do so.
In Office 2007 its very easy, here are the steps:
Click on the Office Icon then go to Save as
Right next to save you will see drop-down that says tools click on the drop-down and click on the general options. Here you will see 2 options, one to open the workbook and then another to modify the workbook, I suggest clicking both depending on who is accessing the file.
In Office 2003, click on tools then options and on the right side you will see a tab that says security, click on the tab and here you will see the same 2 text areas to input an open password and a modify password.
